the gestalt principles give language to the design theories that all visual communication designers use with or without knowing it. as specialists in communication,  designers should understand gestalt principles as foundations of designs. to do this, i began with a book that would be handed out to design students at college orientations. the book uses gestalt principles to explore long form publication design. with these deliverables, the goal is to inspire students with powerful visuals that represent key principles they can use in their studies.
publication design is long form design. by giving students a print publication they can keep, they can come back to it as they gain more knowledge to appreciate the piece more. it is something they can grow with.
to give visual communication students something to identify themselves and each other with, the gestalt's principles sweatshirts have three different definitions on them. students can spot others with their white sweatshirts, forming a sense of community early on in their experience.
